Our Story

Our Beginning

Founded in November 1992, Lian Huat Trading Company began as a small family-run business on Stoddard Road, Mt. Roskill, Auckland. The original site was divided into two sections: a front-facing Asian grocery retail store and a small-scale noodle manufacturing unit at the back.

At the time, noodle production was truly a family affair—two factory workers supported by six dedicated family members. Manufacturing took place twice a day: early in the morning and again in the late afternoon. Deliveries were initially limited to the greater Auckland area.

As time passed, we gradually increased our factory staff and focused fully on noodle manufacturing, eventually closing our grocery store due to limited demand. Back then, Auckland’s Asian population was small, and sustaining retail operations was a challenge.

Humble Beginnings, Bold Vision

Our first products were Fresh Noodles, Hokkien Noodles, and Rice Noodles. These early recipes involved extensive experimentation—different types of flour, variations in texture and color—all part of our learning journey. We later introduced Yang Chun Noodles, inspired by the evolving demographics in New Zealand. Early Southeast Asian migrants favored fresh and rice noodles, while later arrivals from China brought with them a preference for Yang Chun-style noodles. Over time, we expanded our product range to include multiple variations of Yang Chun, as well as Udon and Wonton Noodles.

To reach new customers, we hand-delivered samples to restaurants and cafés throughout Auckland, following up with phone calls to introduce our products. Leading Asian supermarkets—such as Taiping, Dahua, Lim Chhour, and Fresh & Save—were among the first to stock our noodles.

Growing With Our Customers

In 2005, we moved into our own facility at 5A Enterprise Drive, Henderson, which was upgraded to a fully certified food-grade factory. Two production lines were established to manufacture a wider range of products, including rice noodles, pre-cooked noodles, and a dedicated line for Hokkien and Udon noodles.

Our distribution network grew steadily, expanding to regions such as Hamilton, Napier, Gisborne, and Dargaville. Additional drivers and production staff were brought on to meet the rising demand.

By 2012, changes in New Zealand’s immigration policy led to significant growth in the Asian population. This shift fueled a surge in demand for traditional Asian foods across cafés, restaurants, food courts, and supermarkets. In response, we expanded our product offerings again in 2013, introducing wonton and dumpling pastry wrappers, while further strengthening our delivery and production teams.

Today, we proudly serve not just the Auckland region, but also supply to clients in Whangarei, Rotorua, Taupo, Wellington, and Christchurch—including hotels, restaurant chains, gourmet food stores, and independent retailers.

A New Era

From humble beginnings in a small factory in Mt. Roskill to becoming a nationally recognized name in New Zealand’s food industry, Lian Huat has come a long way. What started as a family-run operation is now a trusted supplier to homes, restaurants, and retailers across the country.

Today, our products are proudly stocked in all major supermarkets, including Woolworths, New World, and Pak’nSave — making it easier than ever for customers to enjoy authentic, high-quality noodles wherever they are.

As we look ahead, our mission remains unchanged: to deliver food made with care, consistency, and uncompromising quality. We continue to evolve, expand our offerings, and connect with new communities — all while staying true to the values that shaped our journey from the very start.

Because to us, it’s not just about making noodles — it’s about creating something meaningful that brings people together at every meal.
