Siu Mai is a yum cha favourite — juicy, savoury, and perfect with soy sauce or chilli oil. With Lian Huat Wonton Pastry, you can make them easily at home without needing special round wrappers.

Serving: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 pack Lian Huat Wonton Pastry (25 pieces)
  • 300g pork mince
  • 150g prawn meat, finely chopped
  • 2 spring onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • Pinch of white pepper
  • Carrot, finely grated (for garnish)

Method

Make the filling: In a bowl, mix pork, prawns, spring onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, sugar, and pepper until well combined.

Shape the siu mai:

  • Place 1 wonton wrapper on your palm.
  • Add 1 heaped teaspoon of filling in the centre.
  • Gather the wrapper sides up around the filling, leaving the top open.
  • Press gently to form a little “cup” shape.

Steam: Place siu mai in a lined bamboo steamer (or on a steaming rack). Steam over boiling water for 8–10 minutes, until cooked through.

Garnish & serve: Top each siu mai with a tiny bit of grated carrot for colour. Serve hot with soy sauce or chilli oil.
