Symbolising wealth and prosperity for the New Year
During Chinese New Year, dumplings shaped like ancient gold ingots represent good fortune and prosperity. With Lian Huat Dumpling Pastry, they’re simple to fold, fun to make together, and perfect for sharing at the reunion table.
Ingredients
Dumplings
- 1 pack Lian Huat Dumpling Pastry (25-27 wrappers)
- 300g pork mince (or chicken mince)
- 1 cup finely chopped Chinese chives (or sweet corn for kid-friendly version)
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp sugar
- ½ tsp white pepper
- 1 tsp minced ginger
- 1 tsp minced garlic
For Cooking
- 1 tbsp oil
- ½ cup water (for steaming in pan)
Method
Mix mince, chives (or corn), soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, white pepper, ginger, and garlic until well combined.
Place a spoonful of filling in the centre of each dumpling pastry, fold into a half-moon and press only the middle to seal while keeping the ends open, gently curve into a small boat shape, then bring the two corners together and pinch to form a gold ingot shape.

Heat oil in a pan and cook dumplings flat side down until lightly golden.
Add water, cover immediately, and steam for 5–6 minutes until cooked through.
Remove lid and cook briefly to crisp the base.
Serve hot with soy sauce, vinegar, or chilli oil.
Tips
- Hide a corn kernel in one dumpling for “extra luck” tradition
- Make ahead and freeze uncooked dumplings
- Chicken & corn is the most kid-friendly filling
